|The Italian Kidnapping
|When the Italian leftist government decided to cave in to the Taliban kidnappers' demands to
release their Italian reporter, they created a multitude of problems in the process. Not only did
they provide incentives to the Taliban to enact future kidnappings but they have created ill will
with the Afghanis who are justifiably angry at the Italian government's apathetic behavior at
getting the journalist's translator freed.
The Taliban have assured both governments of their intention to kill the interpreter which I
imagine wouldn't be that big of a deal to them. They have already beheaded another Afghani who
had been working for the journalist when he was captured.
